Classroom Update

We have already been in school 24 days! I hope that all of the children

aren’t coming home too tired.

In reading we have been reviewing Capital and lower case alphabet letters.  The students are going to be learning all of the letters sounds next in preparation for reading. Those children that are still struggling with letter recognition will be getting flash cards to practice at home. Alphabet recognition is a must before phonics can be learned. Please review at home.

In our Math sessions, we have reviewed positional words, sorting,

left and right as well as graphing.

We have been learning about parts of plants in Science. This week we are talking about the function of leaves and concluded our at home seed experiment. We had fun walking over to Hornbachers for Apples last week. We tasted about 10 different varieties of apples and graphed our response to the taste of each one. Fugi, Red Delicious and Braburn apples tied for the best tasting apple.

The kids have been building handwriting skills. We are encouraging the children to use lower case letters when they write which is new to some of them. So far we have covered letters A-C.

Upcoming Events

Class Pictures: Class pictures will be taken this Wednesday, Oct.1. Please return photo forms in your child’s folder if you wish to order pictures.  Pictures will also be taken in the spring of the year.

Vision Screening: The kindergarten class will have a basic vision test on Friday Oct. 3. This will also include a test for color blindness.

Pumpkin Patch at Yunker Farm:  Monday Oct. 6, we will be going to Yunker Farm for a pumpkin adventure. Most of the class will go on the bus, however, 5 students must go by car as the maximum number of students allowed on the bus is 20.  If I could have 5 willing volunteers to let us use their backless booster seat for this trip please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks for your help. We will be needing the same arrangement at the end of the month when we go to the FMCT’s production of Hansel and Gretel

FYI

The last day to wear shorts is tomorrow.  This is a school rule. Fall is in the air so don’t forget to send your child with a coat!

We have a student that is very allergic to cats.

We have strep going around the room, so please watch for fevers

stomach aches and sore throats.

Watch the website for new photos in the Kindergarten photo album.
